Relaxing and Releasing Fear

Recently a yoga set I’ve done with my students is called the Kriya to Relax and Release Fear. The word kriya is a yoga set, or something like a recipe of postures to help relax the body and mind and release fear. Fear is that pesky thing that blocks us from doing the things we need to do. Oftentimes our biggest fear is a fear of success.

In eastern medicine, the liver is associated with anger and the kidneys with fear. This yoga set works on the liver and kidneys to move stagnant energy, which can help to release anger and fear. At the start of class I usually ask students to set a private intention for the class. They might set an intention to clear a fear so they can move forward with an aspect of their lives. They use the energy of the postures then to help clear the fear.

As we relax and release fear, we begin to trust ourselves more, and trust our own inner guidance. When we listen to our inner guidance, we easily find the next step to take in our lives, no matter how big or small that step is. Through yoga sets and other practices, we can reverse the contraction and restriction of fear and truly explore and apply our talent and potential.
