As I was pondering what charity work to do this year, the answer became very obvious and yet, it was one that I had most resistance too. So I knew I had to do it.
Charity work, whether volunteering and fundraising, is something that’s important to me. I haven’t done much of either this year and I realised last week that the challenge of charity work gives me a sense of purpose.
In 2010, I had a miscarriage, two months before my 29th birthday. It’s something I see as a reset point in my life. One of those moments when your life changes and you have changed. There’s no going back.
I eventually began to see the miscarriage as a mixed blessing. My life did change for the better. Within two months I’d left an unhealthy relationship and was living on my own. This began the greatest journey of personal growth of my life.
The miscarriage was a reset point in my life because I had to energy to pretend my life was what I wanted it to be. I was deeply unhappy, and I had been covering it up by keeping busy. After the miscarriage, grief had knocked any get up and go out of me. I had, in a way, become a blank slate.
For the first year after the miscarriage, I tried to cope by myself, and let time heal. Time didn’t heal. I started having panic attacks and went to see a counsellor for a year. That is when my life truly began to change for the better.
Roll on to 2016, and I’m in a much happier, and healthier place. I have a wonderful support system around me. I’ve been single all this time and that’s ok. I’ve been too busy figuring me out. I’ve been busy building a wonderful support network of family and friends, and trying to build a business.
I haven’t told many clients about my miscarriage. Even though it’s something that happens to one in four women, it was something I couldn’t talk about.
However, true healing comes when you can help others. So I set up a fundraising page for the Miscarriage Association of Ireland on idonate.ie. If you’d like to donate, you can do it online here: https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/11360156_miscarriage-association-of-ireland.html
Using my skills and talents, I’d like to hold fundraising events for the Miscarriage Association. I just have time for two every month. Would you like to hold a 2 hour workshop in your premises or home in aid of the Miscarriage Association. It is called Mind Yourself: Coping Skills for daily life. It is a meditation and stress management workshop. Each person will be charged €10, with all proceeds going to the Miscarriage Association.
If you’ve had a miscarriage, I’d love to hear from you.
Lots of love,
I love helping people feel inspired. Whether it’s through meditation groups, angel meditation groups, stress management workshops, Indian Head Massage or Reiki sessions, my clients go home feeling inspired, relieved and able to calmly and confidently cope with the days ahead.
